Spring 2005

Uncommon Adventures

Now that all the ice is out, its time to get those boats baptized in our chilly spring water! To those of you who joined us at our Bay Islands Base this winter, we thank you and hope to paddle and snorkel with you again next winter!

*NEW WEBSITE! Due to the long hours and hard work put in by Dave Dalquist, Nancy Thornton and I, Uncommon Adventures has a new website with streamlined architecture, new images, a photo gallery and much easier on-line registration for programs! The new photo gallery will highlight images from our most recent trips that you can download right to your friends. When they ask, “how was your trip?” you can show them at www.uncommonadv.com

*First kayak instruction for 2005
*Special Spring Comprehensive “Refresher” to cover paddling fundamentals all the way through paddlefloat re-entries. $80/person, 5 hours beginning 9 am, Sat. May 14. Our regular weekly schedule of paddling classes continues after this weekend. We can also do classes by arrangement anytime or anyplace…toll free 1-866-882-5525.

*Last chance! Anyone wishing to join our Alaskan Kenai Fjords Advanced trip
Now is the time to join this fabulous hand-picked group. There are still a few inexpensive flights left and we have 3 spaces left for this one-of-a-kind trip.

*Point Betsie Coast Guard Station Paddling Sampler
Don’t miss your chance to spend 4 days and nights being pampered at this turn of the century restored Coast Guard Station right on the beach! Paddle different places each day while enjoying the regions finest seasonal foods and wines….this may be worth it just for the food! Inquire for family or group pricing.

*New Family Trips!
Due to popular requests, we have set aside two trips exclusively for families this season:

  • B&B Instructional Weekend: here’s your chance to have your family learn safe paddling skills together and not have to deal with any of the meals and lodging arrangements! June 12-14
  • Sleeping Bear Sampler Family Trip: much like the B&B weekend, but with more time! We still take care of the meals and lodging and even toss in a trip to the Cherry Bowl Drive in! You can actually take the time to enjoy your family and not have to spend it all working to give them a “vacation.” July 1-4

*Special Events
Its not too late to schedule a special kayaking event like a Beach Picnic Sunset Paddle, Gourmet River Tour, or an interactive group problem solving program as a fresh alternative to the “Office Picnic”, family reunion or corporate training event. We’ll custom build it to fit your needs!

*Adventure Sports Paddle/Ride Expo
Take the scenic trip to Beulah for a day of free classes, boat demos and great deals on Saturday, May 21st. for some great spring sales on immersion clothing, kayaks and hard to find models from Nigel Foster and Kajaksport. Call Crystal Lake Adventure Sports at 231-882-2527 or go to their website at www.crystallakeadventuresports.com

UA is selling out a few of its Sierra Designs tents to make way for new Mountain Hardware Tents. Anyone looking for a good deal on some good equipment with a lot of life left in it, give us a call or e-mail info@uncommonadv.com
